HOUSEKEEPING CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES 2024

GKHA Housekeeping Championship is an event that provides the industry an opportunity to celebrate the hardworking back of the house employees. Promoted as a team building exercise, the games give the housekeepers and hotel staffs a chance to network and compete in some friendly and crazy competition.  

Teams, Sponsors, Volunteers, Door Prize Donations are all needed for the games.  We expect 15-20 teams consisting of 5 team members; 30-40 judges, sponsors and “cheerleaders” (180-200 people)
NO alcoholic beverages, NO smoking, NO foul language and NO children, please.

BEFORE NOVEMBER 15th – Teams, Hotel Sales, Sponsors, Volunteers, Door Prize Donations

  • Date:  Monday, November 25, 2024
  • Location:  World’s Fair Exhibition Hall, 935 World’s Fair Park Drive (below Marriott Downtown Knoxville)
  • Games Begin:  promptly at 3:00 p.m. and end before 6:00 p.m.
  • Parking:  Paid parking available at Marriott and Locust Street Garage; other parking at lower lot, Knoxville Museum of Art; street parking on Grand Avenue, Blackstock Lot off Grand Avenue, World’s Fair Park Drive.
  • Dress Code:  Comfortable clothes & shoes.  This is an action packed event. 
    • Teams may be dressed in hotel’s official uniform, Teams shirts or street clothes.  Uniqueness is KEY.
    • There will be an award for TEAM SPIRIT.  Encourage other staff members to come and cheer on your team.

Benefiting the GKHA Hospitality Education Scholarship Fund

PRESENTING SPONSOR ($500) provides 2 company representatives to serve as Scorekeepers for a game; may provide logoed sway bags with product samples/literature, display company banner at registration/game; will provide a door prize.  Receive top logo in promotion of event; participation in operations of event. 
SERIES SPONSOR ($300) provides 2 company representatives to serve as Scorekeepers for a game; may provide product samples/literature, display company banner at game; will provide a door prize. Receive logo promotion of event. 
GAME SPONSOR ($150) provides 2 company representatives to serve as Scorekeepers for a game; may provide product samples/literature; will provide a door prize.  Receive logo promotion of event.  Sponsors will receive recognition in the event program; signage at game; opportunity to interact with hotel management and staff.
 
TEAMS will consist of one (1) Team Leader and four (4) Team Members (may use other staff members but must have a minimum of 3 Housekeepers on a team).  Hotels may have more than one team but cannot intermingle team members.  A Team Member CANNOT PLAY on more than 1 team.  Teams must have the same players for all games; NO substitutions.  Team Members must be employees of the hotel they are representing. 
TEAM LEADER is the Executive Housekeeper (or designated person), will serve as Team Leader; responsible to register the Team at the Officials Table; pick up game assignments; know rules and regulations; guide Team to each game in order assigned; return game Scorecard to Officials Table after each game; responsible for Team’s behavior.
HOTEL SALES DIRECTORS & SALES MANAGERS may register to compete in “Towel Talent” to create the best towel character. 
 
VOLUNTEERS will help as Game Umpires, Registration/Scoring, Refreshments, Set Up and Tear Down.  Must be able to stand and move quickly through the event.  Will be responsible for set up of assigned game; instructions to each Team; coordinate beginning of each game with Teams and Scorekeepers; vote to determine Team Spirit winner; cheer on all Teams during the games;  tear down and pack up games at the end of the event.  We count heavily on our volunteers – if you sign up and cannot complete your volunteer assignment, please contact let us know by Friday, November 17th.  
VOLUNTEERS are needed to help SET UP GAMES on Sunday, November 24 (10am – 5pm) and Monday, November 25 (8am – 1pm). 
 
DOOR PRIZE DONATIONS provide 5 items for team prize and/or 1 item to be used in the door prize drawing.  
SWAG BAG DONATIONS provide minimum of 120 items.
REFRESHMENT DONATIONS provide beverages, snacks for 180-200 people.

SCOREKEEPERS: Representatives for Game Sponsors; responsible for keeping Scores and 

GAMES: Teams will be assigned a beginning game. Two teams will begin at each assigned game and will rotate clockwise around the room until all teams have played each game. The Big Bed MakeOff will be the final game for everyone.

OFFICIAL GAMES

ALLEY OOP

Each team member will bowl 2 frames.

Each “pin” knocked over counts as 1 point.

Spare=10 points+1 extra point; Strike=10 points+2 extra points.

ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A TOURIST?

Team members will work together to help a tourist.

1 point for each correct answer. 2 points for bonus question.

BELLCART WHEELIE

Each team member competes in relay: load luggage, race down course, ring bell, race back.

Last team member will unload the bell cart.

Best times awarded points in succession beginning at 20 points.

CURTAIN CALL

Each team member competes in relay: hang shower curtain, load amenities tray,

remove shower curtain, race to finish.

1 point for each correct item on tray and proper curtain.

Best times awarded points in succession beginning at 20 points.

DRESSED FOR SUCCESS

Two team members undress the dummy; tag the other team members who

correctly dress the dummy. 1 point for each item properly replaced on the dummy.

Best times awarded points in succession beginning at 0 points.

DUST BUSTERS

1 team member is catcher. Other team members will throw.

Each “ringer” counts as 1 point. 2 rounds will be played.

LUGGIN’ LAUNDRY

Each team member competes in relay: race through course, folding a set of terry.

Each properly folded set receives 1 point.

Best times awarded points in succession beginning at 20 points.

SOAP SLIDER

Each team member will have 5 bars of soap.

Soap In-The-Count = 1 point; Soap In-The-Hole = 3 points

TP HOOPS

Each team member will have 6- 2 point shots & 2- 3 point shots.

BIG BED MAKEOFF

2 team members make bed according to HKC standards.

Judges signal APPROVED and bed is unmade, placing linen on table;

they tag the other 2 team members who make the bed according to HKC standards.

Judges again signal APPROVED and bed is unmade, placing linen on table.

TOWEL TALENT

Hotel Sales Staffs design towel characters.

Each contestant will be given a set of towels (1 bath, 1 hand, 1 washcloth) and props.

10 minutes will be given to create a character.
